1. A footstalk bearing the fruit of a plant (Webster Suppl. 1879).
2. [f. mod.L. Podocarpus (C. L. L'Héritier de Brutelle in C. H. Persoon Synopsis Plantarum (1807) II. 580).] A coniferous tree or shrub belonging to the genus Podocarpus or the family Podocarpaceæ, including several valuable timber trees native to parts of the Southern Hemisphere. So podocarˈpaceous, -ˈcarpous adjs., belonging to the family Podocarpaceæ. Cf. podo.
