In some lichens (as Cladoma), a stalk-like or shrubby outgrowth of the thallus, bearing the apothecium or fruit; also, any stalk-like elevation.
1857Berkeley Cryptog. Bot. §445. 409 In that genus we have the first indication of a stem to the apothecia, or, as it is called, a podetium. 1870Bentley Man. Bot. (ed. 2) 375 In the latter case the stalk has received the name of podetium.
