1814J. Shirreff Agric. Surv. Orkn. 80 note, The plants are raised from seed sown in little enclosures of turf,..called, in Orkney, planta crews. 1814Scott Diary 4 Aug. in Lockhart, Some dozen of these little enclosures about twenty or thirty feet square are in sight at once.
