‖ criblé, n. (and a.)|krible| [Fr.: see cribbled ppl. a.] A type of engraving on wood or metal (see quots.). Also as adj., engraved in this way, = cribbled ppl. a.

The effect of light and dark is produced in this kind of engraving by sinking a great number of round holes of different diameters in the substance of the wood, which, of course, all come white in the printing. 1960G.
