▪ I. ˈplane-ˌtable, n. Also 7–9 plain-table. [f. plane a. + table n.] A surveying instrument used for measuring angles in mapping, consisting of a circular drawing-table mounted horizontally on a tripod, and having an alidade pivoted over its centre.
