Piarist|ˈpaɪərɪst| [f. mod.L. title patres scholarum piarum fathers of the religious schools, the Piarists being the regular clerks of the Scuole Pie or religious schools.] A member of a Roman Catholic secular order, founded at Rome by St. Joseph Calasanctius shortly before 1600. They devote themselves to the gratuitous instruction of the young.
