phonendoscope|fəʊˈnɛndəskəʊp| [f. Gr. ϕωνή voice + ἔνδον within + -scope.] An apparatus for rendering small sounds in the human body, or in solid bodies in general, more distinctly audible.
1895Specif. Patent No. 10223 (p. i, 1. 35) If this ‘phonendo⁓scope’ be brought into contact with any solid body..the tone-vibrations in that solid body will communicate themselves to the point of contact. 1897L.
