phlomis|ˈflɒmɪs| [mod. L. (J. P. de Tournefort Institutiones Rei Herbariæ (1700) I. 178), a. Gr. ϕλοµίς a name used by Dioscorides.] A shrub or herb of the large genus so called, belonging to the family Labiatæ, and native to temperate parts of Asia and southern Europe, esp. Phlomis fruticosa, the Jerusalem sage, which has pale green leaves with white, hairy undersides, and whorls of deep yellow flowers.
