The name of the city in Pennsylvania, U.S.A., used attrib. in Philadelphia chromosome, an abnormal small chromosome sometimes found in the leukocytes of patients suffering from leukæmia, esp. chronic granulocytic leukæmia; Philadelphia lawyer, a lawyer of great ability, esp. one expert in the exploitation of legal technicalities; a shrewd or unscrupulous lawyer.
