[see alveolar], belonging to the periosteum (of the jaw-bone) and the sockets of the teeth; periˈosteophyte [Gr. ϕυτόν plant, growth], a bony growth from the periosteum; periˈosteoˌtome [Gr. -τοµος cutting], ‘the special knife used for periosteotomy’ (Syd. Soc. Lex.); periosteˈotomy [Gr. τοµή a cutting], ‘the operation of cutting through the periosteum’ (ibid.).
