[ad. Gr. type πένταρχος (used in Byzant. Gr.), f. πέντ(ε five + -αρχος ruler: cf. tetrarch. In mod.F. pentarque (Littré).]
a. The ruler of one of a group of five districts or kingdoms.
b. One of a governing body of five persons.
