[app. a derivative of ped, pannier, basket, although ped has not yet been found so early. Cf. also pedlar.] One who carried about goods for sale (? in a ‘ped’ or pack); a pedlar. (But in one MS. of Promp. Parv. app. ‘a maker of panniers, a basket-maker’.)
