A small calcium-binding muscle protein found in some vertebrates; orig. any of a group of small muscle proteins homologous with this.

XXIV. 294 Their constancy among the proteins considered is favourable to the presumption that they may have a common genic origin, and suggests that the myogen of lower vertebrates is thus a rich and convenient source of a new class of homologous proteins. The general name of parvalbumins is proposed here for these proteins, since it concretely designates one of their main characteristics, viz., their small molecular weight. 1974Nature 20 Dec. 646/1 The only muscle protein whose three-dimensional structure is known is a calcium binding protein from carp (CBP), often called parvalbumin.
