‖ paraphysis Bot.|pəˈræfɪsɪs| Also ˈparaphyse. Pl. -physes. [mod.L., f. Gr. παρα- para-1 1, in sense ‘by-’ or ‘subsidiary’ + ϕύσις growth; so F. paraphyse.] A sterile filament accompanying the reproductive organs in certain cryptogams.
