a. One who rejects war and violence as a matter of principle; = pacifist n.b. One who advocates a peaceful policy as the first and best resort (see prec., sense b). Also attrib. or as adj.
In sense a pacifist (influenced by Fr. pacifiste) is now the preferred form.
