oxanilic, a. Chem.|ɒksəˈnɪlɪk| [f. ox- 2 = oxal- + anilic.] In oxanilic acid (= phenyloxamic acid): a crystalline substance (C8H7NO3) obtained by heating aniline with an excess of oxalic acid; its salts are oxˈanilates. So oxaˈnilamide (= monophenyloxamide), a snow-white flaky substance (C8H8N2O2) obtained in the decomposition of cyaniline by hydrochloric acid; oxˈanilide (= diphenyloxamide), a substance (C14H12N2O2), crystallizing in white scales, obtained by heating aniline oxalate, or in the decomposition of cyaniline by dilute hydrochloric or sulphuric acid; oxˈaniline, a base (C6H7NO) obtained by heating amido-salicylic acid, forming a white inodorous mass, which dissolves in hot water or alcohol, and separates on cooling in slightly coloured crystals.
