[OE. ánlíepiᵹ, -lýpiᵹ, -lípiᵹ, f. án one + hlíep leap, jump, hléapan to leap, run + -iᵹ, -y. The first element underwent the same phonetic changes as án, one, to ôn-, en-, ô-, a-, æ-, e-, after the latter of which also -lipiȝ, -lepiȝ was reduced to -lpi. The form ælpiᵹ occurs even in late OE. ante 1120. The northern anlep, -lepe in 14th c. represents the OE. collateral form ánlépe: cf. ON. einhleypr.]
