not-out, a. and n. Cricket. The phrase ‘not out’ (see out adv. 19 c.) used attributively to designate a batsman (his score, etc.) whose innings either are unfinished or are ended only by his side going out. Also as n.: (a) A batsman who is ‘not out’; (b) a ‘not out’ innings. Also transf.
