negligee Also 8–9 -gée, 8 neglejay. [ad. F. négligé: see négligé. The current pron. in sense 1 was app. (nɛglɪˈdʒiː).] 1. a. A kind of loose gown worn by women in the 18th century. Also, an informal garment worn by men in the 18th century. Obs. exc. Hist.
