nandina, n. Bot.|nænˈdiːnə| Pl. -a, -as. [f. mod.L. genus name Nandina, ad. Jap. nandin, nanten(-chiku), southern-sky (bamboo), f. nan south + ten sky.] The sacred bamboo, Nandina domestica, an evergreen shrub of the barberry family orig. of S. China, which is native to India and eastern Asia and is grown elsewhere as an ornamental for its cones of tiny white flowers and red (or purple) berries.
