mexiletine, n. Pharm.|mɛkˈsaɪlətiːn| [f. meth- + xil- (alteration of xylene n.) + ethyl n. + amine n.] A cyclic derivative of propanol given orally (frequently as the hydrochloride) and intravenously in the treatment of some ventricular arrhythmias; 1-(2,6-dimethylphenoxy)-2-propanamine, C6H3(CH3)2(OCH2CH(CH3)NH2) .
