ranitidine, n. Pharm.|ræˈnɪtɪdiːn, -ˈnaɪ-| [f. ranit-, blend of furan n. and nitro-, + -idine.] A substituted furan, C13H22N4O3S , with histamine H2-receptor blocking properties, given (usu. in tablet form) as the hydrochloride to inhibit the secretion of gastric acid in the treatment of peptic ulcers and related conditions.
