melamine Chem.|ˈmɛləmiːn, -aɪn| Also -in. [Named by Liebig in 1834; f. melam) + amine.] 1. A crystalline substance obtained by boiling melam with potassic hydrate, or by heating cyanamide to 302°; called also cyanuramide.
