▪ I. maty, mate Anglo-Indian.|ˈmeɪtɪ, meɪt| Also matee. [Of obscure origin: cf. Skr. mētha elephant-keeper, and Eng. mate n.2; see Yule.] A native servant, esp. an assistant or under-servant.
