magnificence|mægˈnɪfɪsəns| Also 4, 6 magnifience. [a. F. magnificence (OF. also magnifiance), ad. L. magnificentia, f. magnificent-: see magnificent and -ence.] 1. As the name of one of the ‘moral virtues’ recognized in Aristotelian and scholastic ethics; rendering Gr. µεγαλοπρέπεια, explained by Aristotle to mean liberality of expenditure combined with good taste.
