magnetoplumbite Min.|mægˌniːtəʊˈplʌmbaɪt| [ad. G. magnetoplumbit (G. Aminoff 1925, in Geol. För. i Stockholm Förh. XLVII. 289), f. Gr. µάγνητ-, µάγνης magnet + L. plumb-um lead: see -ite1.] A strongly magnetic greyish black oxide of manganese, lead, titanium, and ferric iron occurring as acute dipyramidal crystals.
1926Chem. Abstr. XX. 1194 (heading) A new oxide mineral from Långban, magnetoplumbite. 1944C. Palache et al. Dana's Syst. Min. (ed. 7) I. 728 Adelsköld,..(1938), gives C6/mmc as the space group of an artificial material supposedly the same as magnetoplumbite...The supposed composition PbFe12O19, by analogy with so-called β-alumina, proposed by Adelsköld (1938) is not indicated by analysis. 1968I. Kostov Mineral. ii. iv. 259 Magnetoplumbite has a perfect {ob}0001{cb} cleavage. |
