œstrous, a.|ˈiːstrəs, ˈɛs-| Also (U.S.) estrous. [f. L. œstr-us (see below) + -ous.] Pertaining to, or causing, an œstrus (sense 2 b); in heat; œstrous cycle, the cyclic series of changes preceding, including, and following œstrus that takes place in most female mammals and involves esp. the reproductive and endocrine systems.
