A denomination of weight in use in Holland, Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. It varies locally in amount, but is always 1/32 of the local pound, or half the local ounce.
1683Pettus Fleta Min. i. (1686) 29 The Mark in the Grain-weight, is parted into Loths and Grains. 1753Hanway Trav. (1762) I. ii. xi. 51, 1 ounce is 2 loot.
