The name of the early 19th-c. German zoologist, T. P. Leisler, used in the possessive to designate Leisler's bat, a small black bat, Nyctalus leisleri, named after him in 1817 by H. Kuhl (Deutsch. Fledermäuse 38), and formerly called the hairy-armed bat.
