‖ apologia|æpəˈləʊdʒɪə| [L., see apology n.] = apology n. 1; esp. a written defence or justification of the opinions or conduct of a writer, speaker, etc. The currency of the word is largely due to J. H. Newman's Apologia pro Vita Sua, 1864.
