The name of the German explorer of Australia, Friedrich Wilhelm Ludwig Leichhardt (1813–48), used attrib. in Leichhardt-tree, -pine to designate a tree native to Australia and India, Nauclea orientalis, of the family Rubiaceæ, which bears heads of yellow flowers; also absol.; Leichhardt's bean (see bean n. 4).
