langbeinite Min.|ˈlæŋbaɪnaɪt| [ad. G. langbeinit (S. Zuckschwerdt 1891, in Zeitschr. f. angew. Chem. 356/2), f. the name of A. Langbein, 19th-cent. German chemist + -it -ite1.] A sulphate of potassium and magnesium, K2Mg2(SO4)3, colourless when pure, which is known only in salt deposits of marine origin and as a synthetic product, and is used in the production of fertilizers.
