† lairwite Old Law. Also 1 leᵹerwíte, 3 learwite, 4 leyrewite. [OE. leᵹerwíte, f. leᵹer lying, lair n.1 + wíte fine.] A fine for fornication or adultery, esp. with a bondwoman.
