Kimmeridgian, a. (n.) Geol. Also Kimeridgian. [ad. F. kimméridgien (A. d'Orbigny Paléont. francaise. Terrains Jurassiques (1842–9) I. 610), replacing earlier kimméridien (J. Thurmann Essai sur les Soulèvemens jur. du Porrentruy (1832) i. 11).] The specific epithet of that subdivision of the Upper Oolite which is prominent at Kimmeridge. Hence, of or pertaining to this subdivision (which is a stage of the Upper Jurassic next below the Portlandian). Also absol.
