isokite Min.|ɪˈsəʊkaɪt| [f. Isok-a, name of a small town in Zambia: see -ite1.] A white, buff, or pinkish phosphate and fluoride of calcium and magnesium, CaMgPO4F.
1955Deans & McConnell in Mineral. Mag. XXX. 681 The mineral, for which the name isokite is now proposed, occurs in the carbonatite plug which forms Nkumbwa Hill (lat. 10° 10′ S. long. 32° 51′ E), 15 miles east of Isoka (pronounced Isōka) in Northern Rhodesia. Ibid. 686 The analysis leaves no doubt that isokite is essentially CaMgPO4F. 1968I. Kostov Mineral. ii. 463 Tilasite and isokite are monoclinic (C2/c), isostructural with sphene. |
