wapiti|ˈwɒpɪtɪ| Also ? erron. wipiti. [a. Cree wapitik (Shawnee wahpetee) lit. ‘white deer’.] The North American stag or elk, Cervus canadensis, allied to but larger than the European Red Deer. Also attrib., wapiti deer, wapiti stag.
