interscalm(e Antiq. rare—0.|ˈɪntəskælm| [ad. L. interscalmium, f. inter between + scalmus, Gr. σκαλµός a peg to which an oar was strapped, a thole-pin: cf. intercolumn.] The space between two of the thole-pins to which the oars were strapped in an ancient Roman or Greek galley or rowing-boat.
