volkonskoite Min.|vɒlˈkɒnskəʊaɪt| Also 9 wolch-, wolk-; volch-. [ad. G. wolchonskoit (A. Kämmerer 1831, in Jahrb. f. Mineral., etc. II. 420), f. the name of Prince ‘Wolchonskoy’ (? i.e. Volkonsky): see -ite1.] A green or bluish-green amorphous clay mineral of the montmorillonite group in which there is some substitution by chromium, now regarded as a variety of nontronite.
