Villafranchian, a. Geol.|vɪləˈfræŋkɪən| [ad. F. villafranchien (L. Pareto 1865, in Bull. Soc. Géol. de France XXII. 262), f. the name of Villafranca d'Asti in N. Italy, in the vicinity of which exposures of this series occur: see -ian.] Of, pertaining to, or designating a stratigraphical stage in Europe variously assigned to the Upper Pliocene and the Lower Pleistocene (see quots.).
