[It. improviso, now spelt improvviso ‘vnprouided, extempore’ (Florio), = L. imprōvīsus unforeseen, unexpected, f. im- (im-2) + prōvīsus, pa. pple. of prōvidēre to foresee. (The word may also be taken as an adjectival use of the L. adv. imprōvīsō (also dē imprōvīsō, ex imprōvīsō) ‘on a sudden, unexpectedly’.)]
