-idene, suffix Chem. [Prob. taken from ethylidene (ad. F. éthylydène (A. Lieben 1858, in Compt. Rend. XLVI. 663), f. éthylène with insertion of the -yd- of aldehyde).] Forming the names of bivalent organic radicals in which both valencies derive from the same atom. Cf. -ylidene.
