The misinterpretation by one cult of the icons, etc., of another (earlier) cult, so as to bring the beliefs and myths depicted into accord with those of the later cult. Hence iconoˈtropic a., of a myth, tradition, etc., suggestive of an origin in such a misinterpretation.
