1706Phillips, Alphos, a kind of Morphew or White Specks on the Skin. 1751Chambers Cycl., Alphos..described by Celsus under the name of vitiligo; wherein the skin is rough, and becomes sprinkled as it were with drops of white. c1870Murphy Comm. Lev. xiii. 39 It is alphos. This is a convenient word instead of the phrase ‘non-contagious leprosy.’ |
