hypotrochoid Geom.|h(a)ɪpəʊˈtrəʊkɔɪd, h(a)ɪˈpɒtrəʊkɔɪd| [f. hypo- 2 + trochoid.] The curve described by a point rigidly connected with the centre of a circle which rolls on the inside of another circle.
1843Penny Cycl. XXV. 282/1 A class [of curves] called..hypotrochoids, of which one particular case is the hypocycloid. 1879Thomson & Tait Nat. Phil. I. i. §94 When the tracing point is not in the circumference, we have Epitrochoids and Hypotrochoids. Hence hypotroˈchoidal a., of the form of, or pertaining to, a hypotrochoid.
