(The early form (h)ypoquistidos represented the Gr. genitive.)] The solidified juice of Cytinus hypocistis, a parasitic plant of the South of Europe, growing on the roots of Cistus: it contains gallic acid and was formerly employed in medicine as a tonic and astringent.
