Huttonian, a.|hʌˈtəʊnɪən| [See -ian.] A. adj. Of or relating to James Hutton the geologist (1726–1796), who maintained against Werner the igneous or ‘plutonic’ origin of unstratified rocks, as basalt, granite, etc.
