Hopton wood|ˈhɒptən ˈwʊd| Also Hopton-Wood, Hoptonwood. The name of a wood and neighbouring quarries close to Wirksworth, Derbyshire, used attrib. and absol. to designate a pale brownish- or greyish-white carboniferous limestone used for building and decorative purposes.
