Hirado|hɪˈrɑːdəʊ| Also -ato. The name of a small island off the west coast of the province of Hizen on the island of Kyushu in Japan, used attrib. to designate a rich elaborate (blue-and-) white porcelain. The art was originally introduced from Korea about a.d. 1600.
