Hepialid, a. and n. Zool.|hiːpɪˈælɪd| Formerly also epialid. [ad. mod.L. Hepialidæ, f. Hepialus (J. C. Fabricius, Systema Entomologiæ (1775) 589), a. Gr. ἡπίολος moth; sometimes Epialidæ, Epialus, perhaps through confusion with Gr. ἠπίαλος nightmare: see -id3.] (Of or pertaining to) a moth of the family Hepialidæ, the ghost-moths or swifts.
