‖ halteres, n. pl.|hælˈtɪəriːz| Also alteres. [Gr. ἁλτῆρες (in sense 1), f. ἅλλεσθαι to leap.] 1. Weights, similar to dumb-bells, held in the hands to give an impetus in leaping.
